Hallo, gibt es ein Programm mit dem man eine Canon G11 als Webcam betreiben kann?

Das ist doch totaler Unsinn eine 10 Megapixel Kamera als Webcam zu benutzen.

Hast du und dein Gegenüber denn eine entsprechend schnelle Breitbandverbindung?

Die G11 hat kein HD-Video. Die Videoauflösung beträgt nur 640x480 und 30Bilder/Sekunde. Das dürfte also funktionieren.

When I plug in the cable to my Mac, the lens closes. I'm trying to cut down on the amount of gizmos I use.

If you mean like tethered, remote shooting...I don't think so. Starting from the G11, Canon entirely disabled remote capture which especially disappointed those who could do remote shooting with the old G10.

I suppose with CHDK you could use the G11 as a webcam, but this is best answered by G11 users who use the CHDK add-on software for the camera.

As the G11 is a 10MP resolution camera, you need a very fast broadband connection to use it as a streaming web cam (if it can be done in the first place). That's why laptops with built-in web cams usually come with low resolution sensors, e.g. 3.2 MP. Most laptops have a 0.3MP or 1MP resolution web cams for bandwidth reasons.

I'm not sure if you can use the G11's its Low Light mode, which captures images at 2.5MP, because it's confined to still pictures and not video. I'm not an expert in this subject and perhaps someone else can answer your question better than I can.
